AGADEA (The Galician Association for the Aid of People suffering from dementia, Alzheimer’s type) is a non-profit organisation formed in 1994 in Santiago de Compostela, that aims to improve the quality of life of people with Alzheimer’s or dementia, along with that of their families and carers.
Roles in the EUTERPE_adn project
Within the EUTERPE_adn project, the association contributes mainly to improving the quality of life of elderly people with dementia, promoting music as an essential part of a healthy life, and combatting loneliness among other things. Music is considered to be a therapeutic tool, and even more so in the rural areas where the organisation works. The alliances that the EUTERPE_adn project creates not only with Portugal, but also with both public and private organisations are generating synergy that will lead to the improvement of the services that we carry out, having the knock-on effect on improving the quality of life of people that we serve.
The association manages everything related to the groups who participate in the project, direct attention, collaborating in the collection of blood and saliva samples, and the cognitive evaluations. The work will be coordinated with Músicos ao Vivo in order to ensure the quality of the music workshops in their facilities. They have been put in charge of carrying out a training session for the musicians that will directly take part in the programme with the users of AGADEA.
In co-ordination with the interdisciplinary team from the group, they got to know the participants through information sessions. They worked together to eventually organise three different groups, with varying cognitive abilities and from three geographical areas, in the regions of Rianxo, Vedra and A Estrada.
AGADEA actively participates in this project with 70 people.
