A cross border network for the study of music as a therapy for neuro psychomotor illnesses and aging:
An approach towards genetic expression and neuropsychology.
EUTERPE_adn, an acronym that references both the muse of music and genetics, looks to investigate typical challenges faced by the elderly population in Galicia and the north of Portugal, such as depopulation and social exclusion. By taking advantage of the therapeutic power of music, the project aims to improve the wellbeing and quality of life of people with dementia, Alzeimher’s, brain damage and elderly adults.
EUTERPE_adn will contribute to improving the wellbeing and quality of life of people with dementia, Alzeimher’s, brain damage and elderly adults, by promoting music as an activity for healthy aging, which combats the loneliness and morbidity that this often brings, through an extended group activity.
From October 2024 to July 2025, 60 hours of group workshops were carried out, given by Músicos ao Vivo in Galicia, and the educational service of the Casa da Música in Porto in Portugal.
The centres where the workshops took place are: Asociación Daño Cerebral Santiago de Compostela (Sarela), Agadea therapy centres in Rianxo, A Estrada and Vedra, Centro de Día “Memoria de Mim” (Matasinhos) and two nursing homes run by the Santa Casa de Misericordia – San Lázaro and Nossa Senhora da Misericordia in Oporto.
